Phu Quoc Itinerary Ideas

📅 3 days 🚶 Standard pace

Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island and most developed beach destination — long white-sand beaches on the west coast, a dense jungle interior, a growing resort strip, and a pepper-farm and fish-sauce cottage industry that makes the local food excellent. It’s a genuine tropical island rather than a mainland beach town.

1 Day in Phu Quoc

  • Morning: Long Beach (Bai Truong) sunrise swim → breakfast at Phu Quoc Night Market (open mornings too)
  • Midday: Vinpearl Safari (the best zoo in Vietnam; open savanna format; 4 hrs)
  • Afternoon: Ong Lang Beach (quieter than Long Beach; backed by trees)
  • Evening: Dinh Cau Night Market — fresh grilled scallops, sea snails, lobster at open-air stalls

2 Days in Phu Quoc

  • Day 1: Long Beach + Vinpearl Safari + Night Market
  • Day 2: Island snorkelling tour — An Thoi Archipelago (southern islands; 3 coral reef stops, kayaking, beach lunch)

3 Days in Phu Quoc

  • Day 1: Beaches and town — Long Beach, Dinh Cau Night Market, coconut tree prison museum
  • Day 2: Southern island snorkelling tour (full day; the coral is best at Gam Ghi Island)
  • Day 3: North Phu Quoc — Phu Quoc National Park hike, Ganh Dau Beach (the northernmost point; calm clear water), Sao Beach detour on the way back (crescent of fine white sand, often ranked best beach on the island)

4–5 Days: Island Life

  • Sao Beach day trip (Bai Sao) — the most beautiful beach on the island; azure water, white sand, few facilities (good food shack)
  • Phu Quoc pepper farm tour — the island’s famous pepper farms still operate; several offer tours
  • Fish sauce factory visit — Phu Quoc nuoc mam is Vietnam’s most prized; Khai Hoan factory offers free tours
  • Scuba diving — visibility is excellent November–May (up to 15 m); dive operators along Long Beach
  • Cable car to Hon Thom Island (world’s longest non-stop cable car over water; 8 km; included with theme park ticket)

Activities to Build Into Any Itinerary

  • Sunset cocktails at a Long Beach beach bar — the west-facing coast has spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Thailand
  • Night squid fishing (hire a local boat for 2–3 hrs; fishing gear provided)
  • Motorbike the northern coastal road to Ganh Dau — remote, few tourists, dramatic scenery

Practical Notes

  • Getting there: Phu Quoc International Airport (frequent flights from Hanoi and HCMC); or overnight ferry from Ha Tien on the mainland
  • Getting around: Motorbike hire is essential (the island is 50 km long); taxis and Grab available but expensive for longer runs
  • Best season: November–May (dry season; calm seas; best diving visibility). Avoid June–October (monsoon; rough seas; some resorts close)
