Con Dao
Remote island archipelago with pristine reefs, sea turtles, a dark colonial prison history, and almost no mass tourism
Overview
Administrative note: From July 2025, Côn Đảo operates as a special zone under TP. Hồ Chí Minh (Ho Chi Minh City municipality), following the merger of the former Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu province into the expanded Ho Chi Minh City administrative area. The island's conservation status, resort access, and flight connections are unchanged.
Vietnam's most remote and unspoiled island escape — pristine beaches, nesting sea turtles, and a sobering prison history, reachable only by short flight or overnight ferry.
