Mu Cang Chai
Overview
Mù Cang Chải is a highland district of the former Yên Bái province, set high in the Hoàng Liên Sơn range on the road between Nghĩa Lộ and Sapa. The terraces here — layered across the mountainsides above the Tú Lệ valley — are among the most photographed in Vietnam. The area is less developed and less visited than Sapa, which keeps the village atmosphere largely intact. From July 2025, Mù Cang Chải is administratively part of the new Lào Cai province, formed by merging the former Lào Cai and Yên Bái provinces.
