Mu Cang Chai in January: Fallow Terraces, Valley Fog & Fireside Homestays

January is dry and cold in Mu Cang Chai. The terraces lie fallow after the autumn harvest, brown with patches of green, and fog sits in the valleys below La Pán Tẩn most mornings. Few visitors come, and H’mong families spend the month repairing houses, tending animals and getting ready for Tet.
