Fairy Stream (Suoi Tien), Mui Ne

Overview
Fairy Spring (Suối Tiên) is a shallow, 1.8 km stream that flows between sand dunes and scrub vegetation behind Dua Village, about 5 km from Mui Ne town. The water is stained a distinctive orange-red by the iron-rich sand it flows over, and the stream bed alternates between hard-packed sand, soft dunes, and small clay formations. You wade barefoot the entire length — maximum depth is about 10 cm — through a landscape that feels genuinely unusual: sand dunes on one side, green vegetation on the other, and the coloured water at your feet. It takes about 45 minutes to walk the full length and back.
Entry approximately 10,000–15,000 VND. No footwear needed — leave shoes at the entrance. Best in the morning before the midday heat. A guide is optional but can point out the best photo spots among the clay formations. Easy to combine with a visit to the Red Dunes on the same morning.
Get There
From central Mui Ne, follow Vo Nguyen Giap Street north, turn onto Ho Quang Canh Street, then Huynh Thuc Khang Street. The entrance is signposted. By motorbike it is about 10 minutes from the main resort strip. Leave your motorbike at the drink stalls at the entrance — parking is free.

What You'll See
The stream gets its colour from fine alluvial soil mixing with the soft sand along the banks. The water is typically ankle-deep and rarely reaches the knee. As you follow it upstream you pass through a narrow canyon of eroded sandstone on one side and a wall of thick vegetation on the other. At the headwaters, about 2 km in, there is a small waterfall and a viewpoint over the dune landscape. The full walk out and back is around 4 km.
Practical Information
- Entrance fee: 15,000 VND for adults, 6,000 VND for children over 1.2 m
- Best time of day: Early morning (7–9 AM) or late afternoon (3:30–5:30 PM) for the best light and cooler temperatures
- Best months: March and November — dry, comfortable, and the colours are most vivid
- Time needed: 1–2 hours for a relaxed walk to the headwaters and back
- Footwear: Leave shoes at the entrance — you wade the entire way
Tips
- Go early — midday sun in Mui Ne is punishing and the canyon provides little shade
- Bring a dry bag or leave valuables at the entrance; your feet will be wet the whole way
- Local vendors along the stream sell rice paper with fermented shrimp paste (banh trang mam ruoc) — worth trying
- Ostrich riding is offered near the entrance if you have kids with you
