Hang Doi (Bat Cave)
A 2.5 km limestone cave beside Kho Muong village in Pu Luong. Closed to visitors since September 2026 after rockfall, pending a safety check.
Overview
Hang Dơi (Bat Cave) is a limestone cave about 2.5 km long beside Kho Mường village, on the western side of Pù Luông Nature Reserve. It formed around 250 million years ago, has an entrance more than 10 m high and connects to an underground river system. Inside are big stalactite and stalagmite formations and, in the deeper chambers, the bats that give it its name.
Closed since September 2026. On 12 September 2026 the Pù Luông Nature Reserve management board asked local authorities to stop all visits, after visitors reported earth and rock falling from the cave roof on 10 September. Warning signs are now up at the entrance, and staff control access. The board also said tourism at the cave had never been officially licensed, and that the entry fees collected by the village were informal. Until the safety check is finished, don't go in, and ask your homestay for the latest before you plan a trip around it.
Get There
The cave is next to Kho Mường village, about 30 km northwest of Cành Nàng on a steep, narrow mountain road. Only ride it yourself if you're confident on mountain lanes, and arrive before dark. Guided treks to the cave area from the main valleys cover about 8–10 km and take around 5 hours.

Before the closure: The village collected an entry fee (reports range from 10,000 to 50,000 VND). There are steps up to the entrance, but the chambers inside are unlit and the rock is uneven and slippery, so you need a headlamp and shoes with grip. Allow 1–2 hours including the walk from the village.
What to do instead: The Kho Mường valley is still worth the trip without the cave. Walk the rice-field paths around the village, stay a night in a stilt-house homestay, or do the long trek across the reserve to Hieu Waterfall.
