Khe Sanh Combat Base
Overview
Khe Sanh Combat Base is an open-air war museum in Quang Tri province, built on the site of one of the Vietnam War's most intense battles. In early 1968, over 20,000 North Vietnamese troops laid siege to approximately 6,000 US Marines and South Vietnamese soldiers for 77 days. The base has been partially restored and now displays original military hardware, reconstructed bunkers, and a museum covering both sides of the battle.
Get There
Khe Sanh is 63 km west of Dong Ha (Quang Tri province capital) along National Route 9. From Hue, drive north to Dong Ha (~70 km), then west on Route 9. From Da Nang, allow around 3 hours. A car or motorbike is the most practical option — there is no direct public bus to the combat base itself.

Best time to visit: February through August offers drier conditions and better visibility. Avoid November–January when rain is heavy and access roads can be muddy.
Nearby: Khe Sanh coffee plantations (5–10 km) produce highland Arabica — stop at a roadside farm on the way. Lang Vay Special Forces Camp (9 km west) is another war history site worth combining with the visit. Ta Puong Waterfall is 60 km further for those continuing west.
