Museum of Military Zone 5
Overview
The Museum of Military Zone 5 (Bảo tàng Quân khu 5) is Da Nang's largest military museum, covering the military history of Central Vietnam from the resistance against French colonialism through to the end of the American War in 1975. The museum occupies a large compound on Duy Tan Street and displays over 10,000 artefacts across indoor galleries and an extensive outdoor equipment yard.
The outdoor section is the main draw — a collection of captured and captured American military hardware that few museums in Vietnam can match. On display are M48A3 Patton and M41 Walker Bulldog tanks, an M8 Greyhound armoured car, M113 armoured personnel carriers, UH-1H Huey helicopters, an A-37 Dragonfly ground-attack jet, a MiG-21 fighter, and various artillery pieces including an M107 self-propelled gun and M102 howitzer. Most are in reasonable condition and can be viewed up close.
Inside, the galleries cover the French colonial period, the August Revolution of 1945, and the American War through maps, photographs, weapons, uniforms, and personal documents. The displays are in Vietnamese with limited English labelling, but the equipment yard needs no translation.
Get There
The museum is at 3 Duy Tan Street, Phuoc Ninh Ward, Hai Chau District, Da Nang — about 1.5km south-west of Da Nang Cathedral. A 10-minute taxi or Grab ride from the city centre costs around 30,000–40,000 VND.
Opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 7:30am–11:30am and 1:30pm–4:30pm. Closed Mondays.

Allow 1–2 hours for the full visit. Photography is permitted throughout. The outdoor equipment yard is partially shaded but the Da Nang heat can be intense — visit in the morning. The museum is rarely crowded and provides a quieter alternative to the Museum of Cham Sculpture a few minutes away.
