Overview
Tram Ton Pass, also known as Heaven's Gate, is Vietnam's highest mountain pass, connecting Sapa to Lai Chau province through the Hoang Lien Son range. Built by French colonial engineers, the pass delivers sweeping views over valleys and, on the right morning, seas of cloud rolling below the road.
Best visited early morning or late afternoon, when cloud and light conditions are most dramatic.
