Sapa Terraces
The iconic stepped paddies of the Muong Hoa Valley, worked by H'mong and Dao farmers for centuries.
Overview
The rice terraces around Sapa town step down the hillsides in tight contour lines, farmed for generations by the H’mong, Dao, Tay, and Giay communities of the surrounding valleys. They're at their greenest during the growing season and turn gold ahead of the September-October harvest, framed by the Hoang Lien Son mountains and often wrapped in drifting mist.
Best viewed from Muong Hoa Valley viewpoints or on a trek toward Lao Chai and Ta Van; harvest season (September-October) is the most photogenic window.
