Binh Thuy Ancient House
A well-preserved 19th-century merchant villa in Can Tho blending French colonial and Vietnamese architecture, used as a filming location for The Lover.
Overview
Binh Thuy Ancient House, on the outskirts of Can Tho, is a merchant family villa built in stages from the late 19th century, mixing French colonial columns and tiling with a traditional Vietnamese layout and altar rooms. Its courtyard and facade were used as a filming location for the 1992 film adaptation of Marguerite Duras's The Lover, and the house remains privately owned and lived in by descendants of the original family.
A short taxi or motorbike ride from central Can Tho; visits are typically brief, taking in the courtyard, garden, and ground-floor rooms.
