The delta's largest and most famous floating market, near Can Tho — boats piled high with produce, sold and haggled over on the water at dawn.
Overview
Cai Rang, just outside Can Tho, is the biggest and best-known of the Mekong's floating markets. Wholesale boats gather from early morning, each hanging a sample of its cargo — watermelons, pineapples, cabbages — from a tall pole so buyers can spot what they need from a distance. Smaller boats weave between them selling coffee and bowls of noodle soup to traders and visitors alike.
Best visited by boat between 6:00 and 8:00, before the market thins out and the heat builds. Reachable by short boat transfer from Ninh Kieu Wharf in Can Tho.
