Chau Doc Floating Village

A community of houseboats and fish farms on the Hau River near the Cambodian border, where families live and raise fish beneath their own floors.

Overview

Chau Doc, in An Giang province near the Cambodian border, is home to a floating village of houseboats moored along the Hau River, many built over submerged fish cages used for farming catfish and other species. Boat tours through the village give a close look at a way of life built entirely around the river, with the nearby Cham Muslim community of Da Phuoc adding another cultural layer to the area.

Best explored by hired boat from the Chau Doc waterfront; often combined with a visit to Ba Chua Xu Temple.
