Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds)
A vast seasonal wetland spanning Dong Thap and Long An provinces, its reed marshes and lotus fields flooding each year with the Mekong's rise.
Overview
Dong Thap Muoi, the Plain of Reeds, is a huge low-lying wetland spanning Dong Thap and neighbouring provinces, shaped by the Mekong's seasonal floods and once one of the least-developed parts of the delta. Reed marshes, lotus fields, and melaleuca forest cover much of the plain, with Tram Chim National Park protecting one of its most significant remaining wild sections.
Best seen in the flood season (roughly August to November), when water levels transform the plain and lotus fields are in bloom.
