District 1 — Central Saigon

District 1 is the commercial and historical core of Ho Chi Minh City, containing the city's French-colonial landmarks — the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica (under restoration), the Central Post Office, the Reunification Palace, and the People's Committee Hall. The streets around Dong Khoi and Nguyen Hue have been redeveloped into a walkable promenade; Ben Thanh Market anchors the southern end of the district and the backpacker area of Pham Ngu Lao is just west.
