Lap An Lagoon
Overview
Lap An Lagoon is a vast 800-hectare tidal lagoon in Lang Co, 64 km south of Hue, where a freshwater stream meets the sea between Bach Ma National Park and the ocean. It is known for its oyster farms, migratory birds, mirror-still reflections at sunrise, and a hidden sandbar that emerges at low tide.
Get There
Lap An Lagoon is in Lang Co Town, Phu Loc District, about 64 km south of Hue and 29 km from Da Nang along Highway 1A.
From Hue by motorbike: About 1 hour 45 minutes south on Highway 1A.
From Hue by train: SE21 or HD1 services depart around 7:35 AM and reach Lang Co in about 1 hour 20 minutes (from around 200,000 VND).
From Hue by bus: Tan Limousine vans run to Lang Co in about 1.5 hours (around 102,000 VND).
From Da Nang: 29–35 km, approximately 30 minutes by car or motorbike — either over Hai Van Pass (scenic) or through the tunnel (faster).
The lagoon is an easy and worthwhile stop if you are travelling between Hue and Da Nang.

What to See & Do
- Sandy footpath: At low tide a hidden sandbar emerges across the lagoon — you can walk out into the middle of the water, surrounded on all sides
- Sunrise and sunset: The still water creates perfect mirror reflections during golden hour, making this one of the best photography spots between Hue and Da Nang
- Basket boat tours: Join local fishermen on traditional thuyen thung (round coracle boats) for a tour of the oyster farms and fishing grounds
- Birdwatching: The lagoon attracts migratory species including redshanks, sandpipers, and black-tailed godwits
- Oyster farms: The lagoon's mix of fresh and salt water produces excellent oysters — many restaurants let you eat at the water's edge
Food
Lap An lagoon oysters are among the best in central Vietnam — grilled with scallion oil, in porridge, or as a salad. Mackerel, squid, crab, and shrimp are also pulled fresh from the lagoon daily. Restaurants cluster along Nguyen Van Street on the lagoon's edge; Be Than Seafood, Fishing Village Restaurant, and VietPearl Seafood are all well regarded.

- Best time to visit: March–September (dry season, calm water and clear skies); early morning or late afternoon for photography
- Low tide: Check tide times if you want to walk the sandy footpath — it disappears at high tide
