Royal Tombs of the Nguyen Emperors

Overview

Seven Nguyen emperors are buried in elaborate tomb complexes spread across the hills south of Hue city, each a distinct architectural statement built during the emperor's own reign. Minh Mang's tomb is the most formally composed, with a central axis through pavilions, lakes, and gates. Khai Dinh's is the most unusual — built in 1920 with a concrete shell and European baroque detailing over a Vietnamese layout.
