Quy Nhon in February: the dry season starts, but plan around Tet

Last updated: October 2026 · By Jack Ng

Quick answer: February is a good month for Quy Nhon. It’s one of the driest months of the year (about 28 mm of rain over 7 days), with highs around 28°C. The catch is Tet: in 2027 it falls on 6 February, and the days around it bring closed restaurants, full transport and higher hotel prices.

What it was like for us: I spent a few days in Quy Nhon in February 2026, flying into Phu Cat (the taxi to the city beach was about $8). Days were good for the beach, but the evenings on the promenade felt cool, even cold, and I was glad I had long sleeves. I stayed at Grand Hyams Hotel on the city beach, in a balcony room looking over the sea, for about $70 a night. February is a busy month because of Tet; in quieter months standard rooms there list from about $26–31. (Jack Ng)

The wind is dropping and the sea is calming through the month. Ky Co and Hon Kho trips run on most days by the second half of February. The water surprised me: it was warm, and swimming was pleasant even though the evenings were cool.

What to do in Quy Nhon in February

  1. Ky Co and Eo Gio in one morning (170,000 VND with the cart + 50,000 VND), with a walk around Nhon Ly fishing village on the way, or the Klook tour at about $32.
  2. Ghenh Rang and Queen’s Beach at sunset; look, don’t swim.
  3. Banh It towers on their hill above the rice fields.
  4. An evening walk on the beachfront promenade, with a drink at Seasand Coffee Lounge, which sets out movable sofas on the sand. It was open when I visited in February 2026 and is a short walk from Grand Hyams; check Google Maps for current hours before you go, though the walk is nice anyway.
  5. Tet in a provincial city: if you’re here over Tet, you’ll see family visits, flower markets and pagodas full of people. Many local restaurants close for 3–5 days.

What to pack

Light clothes and swimwear for the day, a light jacket or long sleeves for the evenings (they can feel cold), and sunscreen.
