What June in Quy Nhon actually feels like

I visited Quy Nhon in June 2024, and it was hot. Really hot. But at noon the city beach was almost empty: a long stretch of golden sand with hardly anyone on it. If this beach were in the UK, you wouldn’t find a spare patch of sand on a day like that.

That’s the thing to know about June here. The summer crowds are real, but locals go to the beach at sunrise and sunset to avoid the heat. In the middle of the day almost nobody is on the sand, so if you can handle the sun for a short swim, you’ll have it nearly to yourself.

Walking around in the midday heat was too much for me, so when I came across an electric buggy near my homestay, just off the coastal road, I hired it. It took me on a one-hour loop around the city for 250,000 VND (about $10) in June 2024, with the buggy to myself. Not cheap for Quy Nhon, but much better than trudging along the seafront and sweating through my shirt.

One more thing I noticed: almost all the signs were in Vietnamese, with very little English or any other language. Have a translation app with camera mode ready for menus and street signs. It’s also a good sign of how little Quy Nhon has changed for foreign tourists so far.

Our honest take: June is fine if you plan around the heat. Swim at sunrise or sunset like the locals, hide from late morning to mid-afternoon, and pay for a ride rather than walking.

4. Thap Doi late afternoon when it’s cooler (open until about 5:30pm).
5. Hire an electric buggy at midday instead of walking. I found one near the coastal road and paid 250,000 VND (about $10) for a private one-hour loop around the city in June 2024.
