Quy Nhon in January: quiet, mild and mostly sunny

Quick answer: January is a good, quiet month for Quy Nhon, though not yet peak beach season. Expect highs of about 27°C and around 14 days with some rain, but only about 67 mm in total, so mostly light showers between sunny spells. The northeast wind can make the sea choppy. It’s much nicer than Da Nang this month, and the beaches are almost empty.

What it was like for us: I spent about two weeks in Quy Nhon in January, and the weather was beautiful most days. Coming from Da Nang, where January is often chilly and rainy, it felt fantastic. Sea and boat trips

The northeast monsoon is still blowing, so waves on the open coast can be big. Ky Co is sheltered and often still OK on calm days. Boats to Cu Lao Xanh often don’t run from November to January. Hon Kho trips depend on the day; ask at Nhon Hai the morning before.

What to do in Quy Nhon in January

1. Thap Doi and Banh It Cham towers. Cool January days are the best time to walk around Banh It’s hilltop (about 20,000 VND).
2. Eo Gio cliff path (50,000 VND). Rough seas make the cliffs more dramatic; just stay behind the railings.
3. Quang Trung Museum in Tay Son (50,000 VND), 45 km inland, a good rainy-day trip.
4. Food: bún chả cá for breakfast, bánh xèo tôm nhảy at the food street in the evening.

Crowds, prices and events

Very quiet with foreign and domestic tourists alike, and prices are low; I paid about 420,000 VND (about $16) a night for a beach-view apartment in the center. Tet (Lunar New Year) 2027 falls on 6 February, so the last week of January gets busy with people traveling home. Book trains and buses for late January early.
